MABALACAT City Mayor Cris Garbo has vowed to continue several programs he initiated when he assumed office more than a year ago.

During a breakfast meeting with Pampanga newsmen at the Oasis Hotel here Tuesday, December 10, Garbo cited his programs on health, education, solid waste management and environment, and peace and order.

“Right now I am focusing on those projects,” the mayor said.

Garbo said he is committed to serve his constituents and is not affected by criticisms coming from his political detractors.

“Because of my new faith, I am now at peace. I am now a born-again [Christian],” he said.

“My Christian life is always my priority, and then my family and politics,” the mayor added.

Garbo said the city is a grandslam winner in the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“We are a grandslam winner, for four consecutive years. In Central Luzon, we are only eight local government units (LGUs) which are SGLG awardees,” the mayor said.

One of the criteria in the selection of SGLG winners is the program against illegal drugs, according to Garbo.

“If the local chief executive has been listed as a narco-politician, the city is automatically disqualified,” he added.

Aside from the SGLG award, Garbo said the city was also recognized by the Department of Trade and Industry as most competitive LGU.

The mayor said that the LGU was also lauded by a Korean organization for implementing measures to fight graft and corruption in the local government.
