Wagdos shines anew

FORMER Davao City standout Sonny Wagdos, now with the Philippine Air Force, grabbed the runner-up honors in men's local 21K event of the just-concluded 42nd National Milo Marathon at the Don Mariano Marcos Stadium Complex in Laoag.

Wagdos, who was a varsity scholar at the University of Mindanao and collected gold, silver and bronze medals in past BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games and National Prisaa Games, timed one hour, 14 minutes and 49 seconds.

“Nalipay ko maski kulang akong practice, sulod gihapon ko sa top 3 (I am happy to be in the top three despite my lack of practice),” Wagdos said.

Champion Romnick Dago of Iloilo clocked 1:10:12 while Alley Quisay placed third (1:16:26).

Wagdos, however, grabbed the third spot in the international category.

Criselyn Jaro, who hails from Toril in Davao City, finished third in women's 21K with a time of 1:38:42. She trailed behind Aileen Tolentino (1:30:51) and Nhea Ann Barcena (1:31:16).

Cebu City's Mary Joy Tabal and Tagum City's Rafael Poliquit crowned themselves marathon queen and king anew.

Former Brokenshire College prized runner Anthony Nerza landed fifth in men's 42K.

Winners received trophies and cash prizes.
