FOR most people, giving and receiving gifts during Christmas season is a tradition. Some, most especially the children, gather around the Christmas tree or under their Christmas socks, while waiting for the clock to strike 12, before opening their gifts from their loved ones.

Though everyone looks forward to knowing what they have received for Christmas, there is that often ignored item that makes these presents all the more special.

What’s a gift without a gift wrapper? It would just be an ordinary object handed to you and it would be not as exciting. Creative gift wrapping adds to the thrill of the unveiling, transforming ordinary objects into presents. Then, the gift tags and cards add sentimental value and a touch of personalization, where you can write your heartfelt message.

Artist and owner of Deedoe Design, Jacklyn Kaye Uy, turns her aesthetically pleasing masterpieces into whimsical paper goods like gift wrappers, gift tags and cards.

“Well-wrapped gifts show that you’ve made the effort to give your present a little something extra. And it just looks pretty,” said Jacklyn.

Jacklyn’s reignited love for traditional art—after attending an extracurricular drawing class during her university days—helped her create Deedoe Design in 2017. It all started when she created an Instagram account with the intention of just sharing her art.

“I spent all my free time drawing and painting. With enough prompting from family and friends, I decided to create an Instagram account to share my work,” she shared. Much to her surprise, she started getting requests to make custom invites and portraits. This gave her the courage to launch her own line of paper goods.

Her clients usually send her an email for inquiries so she can get a better idea on the type of design they are looking for and the scope of work involved. Her website also features samples of her work. Aside from custom works, Deedoe Designs also offers on-hand gift wrappers, gift tags and cards with Jacklyn’s own vibrant designs. Some of the popular designs: “Tree,” an illustration of a father and daughter decorating their Christmas tree printed on a brown paper; “Holiday Hair,” an illustration of beautiful girls with Christmas vibes on a nude-colored paper; “Reindeer,” and one of her classic designs, the “Penguins.”

“Imagine giving someone a bunch of smaller gifts, or giving everyone in your family or barkada their presents, it’s cute to have them all in the same gift wraps and tags,” explained Jacklyn, as she shared the importance of gift wraps and gift tags.

Though she pours her heart out in designing paper goods, Jacklyn still believes that ripping apart the wrapper is still the fun part. But she also suggests that one can reuse the paper goods as book covers, bookmarks, items for scrapbooks and even as liners for cookie boxes.
