THE Public Information and Relations Office of the island-province of Guimaras won big during the 2018 Information Officers' Year-End Conference and Awards.
For the first time, it earned the top spot as Best Performing Information Office for consistent, relentless and exemplary programs and services in information, education and communication rendered to the public.
Jaypee Kein Entredicho, Executive Assistant IV and concurrent information officer, topped the list of the Best Performing Information Officer in Western Visayas for two consecutive years.
He was awarded for his outstanding contributions to development communications toward the promotion of government thrust and programs that redound to the welfare of the people and empower them to uplift their quality of life.
Meanwhile, on its third year bagging the top spot, Butlak Guimaras, the official newsletter of the Provincial Government of Guimaras, was awarded first place as Best Agency Newsletter.
Guimaras Now, the annual digest of the province of Guimaras, was likewise awarded first place for Best Agency Special Publication.
The awards for print medium cited the relevance of content, messages, adherence to editorial quality standards and effectiveness as communication support to development.
Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Western Visayas OIC Director Jaime
Cabag Jr. cited the significance of information work in public service.
"Our job as information officers are crucial profession because it has become a tool that has tremendous relevance for usefulness as we conduct our daily life affairs," he said.
"As a tool, information dissemination is the key that opens the doors to opportunities," he added.
PIA Director General Harold Clavite, in his message, pointed out how to become effective communicators.
"Maintaining relationships is the key point of being a government communicator. Creating relations between your agencies and other government institutions, the media, or the people itself, is the gist of our job description," Clavite said.
The conference and awards was held by the PIA to gather information networks all over the region in fellowship and information sharing. (PR)
