Betua bags 2 golds in NATIONAL 6-IN-1

CEBUANA teen Giselle Ann Betua bagged two titles in the National Open 6-in-1 Championships on Dec. 12 at the SM Seaside City.

The 15-year-old Betua won the 55-kilo Secondary and Youth categories after lifting a total of 144 kilograms. The University of Cebu (UC) student had a best of 60 kilograms in the snatch and 84 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Betua outclassed 17-year-old Ma. Vanessa Karaan in both categories. Karaan lifted a total of 130 kilograms. Betua was also impressive with a second place finish in the 55-kilo Open category, which was won by 19-year-old Ma. Dessa Delos Santos.

Delos Santos hoisted a total of 165 kilograms, 75 kilograms in the snatch and 90 kilograms in the clean and jerk. Delos Santos also won the 55-kilo Junior category, beating Sainty Fe Daro, who lifted a total of 121 kilograms.

Bacolod City’s Ronald Colonia topped the 81-kilo Open category with a total of 256 kilograms. He had best scores of 116 in the snatch and 140 in the clean and jerk. He beat 19-year-old Jones Bodah by just a kilogram. Bodah lifted a total of 255 kilograms, 115 kilograms in the snatch and 140 kilograms in the clean and jerk.

Arnold Romano of the Philippine Airforce finished third with a total of 221 kilograms.

Bodah, however, bagged two titles, the 81-kilo and junior categories. He was uncontested in the collegiate division and beat the University of the East’s Herbert Orpilla in the Youth category, who lifted a total of 210 kilograms.

Ateneo de Davao’s Charles Baron easily won the 81-kilo Youth and Secondary categories by lifting a total of 105 kilograms. The 13-year-old had no opponent in both categores.

Olympian Hidilyn Diaz wowed the crowd by showcasing her wares. Diaz did her runs ahead of her schedule. Her opponents will still be lifting today. (EKA)
