Cop who survived slay try goes missing

A TOP official of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) said the probe on the attempt on the life of Superintendent Michael John Deloso will be delayed after investigators failed to locate his whereabouts.

Cocpo chief Senior Superintendent Nelson Aganon said Deloso was discharged from the state-owned Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) last November 30, just 10 days after he was attacked by still unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants along the Provincial Capitol compound in Luna street, Cagayan de Oro City.

Aganon said neither police officials nor the investigators were informed by Deloso of his location.

"Unfortunately until now wala kaming information sa whereabouts niya. Di kami na inform. Wala siya sa bahay niya di namin alam kung nagpapahinga siya ang alam lang namin is nakalabas na siya ng hospital," Aganon said.

(We were not informed. He is not in his house. We don’t know if he is taking a rest. What we know is that he was already discharged from the hospital)

Aganon said the investigation will be delayed unless Deloso cooperates and tell investigators of his whereabouts.

"Hopefully magbigay siya ng feedback kung nasaan siya kasi di matatapos ang investigation kung di siya mag-cooperate," he added.

(Hopefully he will feedback on his whereabouts because the investigation will go nowhere if he will not cooperate)

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II said the personal account of Deloso of what happened during that day will help hasten the investigation.

He said authorities are looking for him but he said they could not force Deloso to give his statements.

"Gipangita siya sa SITG pero wala tay mahimo kay siya man ang offended party pero kasagara ang offended party mangita man gyud og hustisya pero basin dili pa siya andam so dili ta kapugos niya pero malangan gyud ang investigation," Hortillosa said.

(The SITG is looking for him but we cannot do anything since he is the offended party. Usually, the offended party will seek for justice but maybe he is not yet prepared and we cannot force him. But definitely the investigation)

"Wala ta kahibalo sa iyang rason pero sa karon dili gyud siya ma-reach," he added.

(We don’t his reasons but right now we really can’t reach him)

Hortillosa said Deloso may have been recovering from the multiple gunshot wounds in a place where nobody knows him.

"May posibilidad nga nagtago siya ug nagpahulay sa laing lugar kay dili pa man siya totally nga naayo na ug dili pa niya kaya proteksyonan iyang kaugalingon," Hortillosa said.

(It is possible he is taking a rest in some place since he is not totally healed yet and he cannot fully protect himself)
