16 government workers arrested for drugs

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said a total of 16 government workers in Davao region were collared for their involvement in illegal drug trade.

PDEA 11 Regional Director Antonio Rivera said there were four elected officials, nine government employees and three law enforcers. Last year, PDEA 11 recorded seven uniformed personnel who are into illegal drugs.

“Ang nakita nako sa law enforcer ug sa AFP, kusog ang advocacy, pahimangno sa mga tao nga they should not engage in illegal drugs (There is a strong advocacy on the part of the law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of the Philippines),” Rivera said.

One of the factors on the decline of number of uniformed personnel involved in illegal drugs is the constant warning of the President not to get involved into such activity.

He also said that the public is proactive in reporting to authorities their illegal activities which led to quicker response and immediate apprehension.
