Mayor urges owner to review physical set up of mall

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia urged the owner of SM City Bacolod to review or re-assess the physical set up of their mall to avoid untoward incidents inside the mall.

This, after a man who allegedly suffered from depression fell to his death from the third floor of the mall on Tuesday, December 11.

“It makes me wonder what could be the possible reason. If this had happened already a number of times, there should be a review or reassessment of the mall owner of their physical set up,” Leonardia said.

He said there should be more strict and serious about preventive measures inside the mall.

“Considering that it happened three times already, there is a cause for us to really see to it that it should be remedied,” he added.

In February 2017, a 17-year-old boy believed to have “love problems” was injured after he jumped from the second floor of the said shopping mall.

In March 2016, a German national leaped to his death from the third floor of the same shopping mall after he was brokenhearted when his Negrense partner allegedly duped him.

Leonardia said he will talk with the management of the mall to avoid similar incidents.

Based on the investigation of the Bacolod City Police Office, the 43-year-old victim allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the shopping mall’s third floor.

The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. (MAP)
