La Trinidad dominates Benguet sports meet

LA TRINIDAD lorded 12 other municipalities including one university as it remained the overall champion in the recently concluded 2018 Benguet Provincial Sports Meet.

Valley athletes bagged 156 gold medals, 108 silver medals and 72 bronze medals both from elementary and secondary division.

Despite reclaiming the over-all championship, La Trinidad’s medal haul dipped from last year’s 167 gold, 108 silver and 57 bronze medals.

Department of Education Benguet division sports coordinator Ceasar Luma-ang noted a huge improvement from the Tuba delegation which ranked second place gaining 47 gold medals, 40 silver medals and 63 bronze medals.

Last year, the municipality ranked sixth place.

Itogon, who ranked second last year was dislodged to third place with 38 gold, 57 silver, and 53 bronze medals.

Benguet State University meanwhile ranked fourth with 28 gold, 39 silver and 25 bronze.

Ranking fifth is the municipality of Mankayan, Buguias at sixth, Tublay in seventh place followed by Atok, Kapangan, Kibungan, Bakun, Kabayan, Sablan and Bokod.

Luma-ang added these years athlete’s gold medalists will be representing the province in the upcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) in Apayao next year.
