7 Oro villages declared drug-cleared

SEVEN villages in Cagayan de Oro City have been declared drug-cleared while three others have cropped up as top villages with most number of drug personalities arrested this year, according to the data of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).

Cocpo spokesperson Superintendent Mardy Hortillosa II confirmed the figures based on their Cocpo records. The report bared that the seven drug-cleared villages are 5,6,8,26,37,11 and 19. The records revealed that Carmen, Puerto and Bugo have emerged as top 3 villages where drug suspects were arrested from January to November in various anti-illegal drug operations.

Some 55 (10.03%) drug suspects were nabbed in Carmen; 45 (8.21%) in Puerto; and 43 (7.84%) drug personalities were apprehended in Bugo.

Hortillosa explained that having the most number of drug suspects arrested doesn't mean these personalities are residents of said barangays.

“Naa lang daghan sa ila nadakpan but it doesn't mean nga sila na jud daghan kay dili tanan nadakpan taga didto,” Hortillosa said.

The data also showed that a total of 674 drug suspects were arrested in 563 operations from January 1 to November 30.

In these police operations, 12 drug suspects were killed after they allegedly fought back (nanlaban).

Police have repeatedly claimed that most of these “nanlaban” drug suspects were armed with a 38 caliber pistol.

Of the 674 arrested drug suspects nabbed, 594 were categorized as pushers while only 80 were drug dependents. Also, 82.49 percent were male and 17.51 percent were female.

318 of the drug suspects arrested were aged 18-30 years old; 309 were aged 31-50 years old; 27 were aged 51 years old and above while 20 were minors.

Anti-illegal drug operatives seized more than P8 million worth of illegal drugs in different operations.
