1,054 tanods in Cebu City receive P4,000 honorarium

HAPPINESS was clear in Rey Revilleza’s eyes as he made his way to the social hall of the Cebu City Hall on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Like many of his colleagues, the barangay tanod from T. Padilla was mentally listing what gifts to buy his children and godchildren for Christmas while waiting to receive his cash honorarium from the City Government.

“I’m very grateful we’re getting our honorarium early. It’s my son’s birthday tomorrow and the tanods in our barangay are also planning a party,” he told SunStar Cebu in Cebuano.

While he will spend most of his honorarium on noche buena groceries and presents, the father of three said he will set aside some cash for his son’s 15th birthday on Dec. 14.

“We’re going to have a simple lunch at his favorite fast-food place. Going there makes my children happy,” Revilleza said in Cebuano.

Revilleza was one of 1,054 tanods in the city who received their P4,000 cash honorarium for the month of October.

Reminder

City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) Chief Garry Lao said they’re still processing the honorarium for the months of November and December.

“We’ve forwarded it to the City Accounting Office. I explained to them that their November honorarium was just processed because they only just submitted their consolidated report. I also asked them to submit their consolidated report for this month on or before Dec. 21 so we can process their December honorarium,” he said in Cebuano.

Before the distribution, Mayor Tomas Osmeña spoke before the tanods to remind them of the City’s peace and order measures for the coming Misa de Gallo, yuletide holidays and the Fiesta Señor celebrations.

Lao said the mayor tasked him to group the tanods according to clustered barangays to maximize peace and order measures.
