PCG strictly monitors excess passengers, cargoes on holiday

THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental is strictly implementing the mandatory pre-departure inspection to ensure there are no excess passengers and overloading of cargoes in seaports in time for the Yuletide season.

Lieutenant Commander Lodovico Librilla Jr., head of PCG-Negros Occidental, said on Thurday, December 13, they are intensifying the security measures, as they are expecting an influx of passengers, particularly next week, for the holiday break.

“We are prioritizing the safety of the passengers to make sure they can safely arrive at their destinations, with their families,” he added.

Librilla said a vessel or motorized banca with excess passengers and overloaded cargoes will not be allowed to travel.

They must be cleared from their violation in order to be allowed to travel again, he added.

Motorbancas will also be monitored as part of the safety measures.

Librilla also said that during docking of fastcrafts and roll-on or roll-off vessels, passengers are not allowed to stand to avoid injuries if there is engine trouble.

Librilla said K9 units are stationed in the seaports to conduct paneling of baggage and random inspection of cargoes.

Seaports in the province have also passenger assistance desks to answer passengers concerns, he added. (GYM)
