ILOILO Province received for the second year the Plaque of Sustainability during the 2018 Excellence in Local Governance (Excell) Awards of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Western Visayas.

The plaque was conferred to the Province of Iloilo for “having exemplified commitment in raising the standards of accountability, transparency, and quality service delivery, thereby pursuing the ideals of Excellence in Local Governance” during the awarding ceremony on December 12, 2018.

It means the province still meets the criteria for Best Performing Local Government Unit. However, it can no longer qualify for the award as it was already declared a “hall of famer,” having earned the top spot from 2014, 2015, and 2016.

In 2017, it also received the same Plaque of Sustainability.

“Because we are already a ‘hall of famer,’ we were disqualified to receive the Excell Awards. But since we continue to record an outstanding performance, we were given the sustainability award,” said Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr.

Recently, Iloilo Province also set the record of being the only province in the country to win the much-coveted Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG). This, after having won the SGLG Award for four consecutive years.

Excell is a recognition given by DILG to “best managed local governments” in Western Visayas. Every local government unit is judged based on their achievements in governance, administration, social services, economic development, and environmental management initiatives.

It commends municipalities, cities, and provinces for their efforts in instituting good governance in their respective constituencies. (PR)
