Davao City's IMs continue to struggle in Asian Continental Chess

DAVAO City's international masters (IMs) John Marvin Miciano and Oliver Dimakiling along with other Filipinos continue to struggle in the ongoing 17th Asian Continental Chess Championships Second Manny Pacquaio Cup Open at Tiara Oriental Hotel in Makati City.

Miciano, a varsity scholar of Far Eastern University, was at 33rd place with two points while Dimakiling placed 48th with 1.5 points after the fourth round Friday, December 14.

Miciano, 18, seeded 48th, lost his first two matches opposite IM Nodirbek Yakubboev of Uzbekistan and Filipino Michael Concio, Jr. but he recovered by beating Cambodia's Randolph Schain and Indonesian IM Novendra Priasmoro in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.

His next assignment is Mongolia's IM Sumiya Bilguun.

The 39th-seeded Dimakiling, for his part, lost to Chinese GM Hua Ni and IM Yi Xu then drew with China's woman candidate master (WCM) Yuxin Song.

The Dabawenyo's lone win was against Filipino Angelo Young.

India's grand master (GM) Surya Shekhar Ganguly led two other 3.5 scorers Chinese GM Yi Wei and Indian GM S.P. Sethuraman.

Filipino IM Ricardo de Guzman, who earned 2.5 points, was at 16th place while IM Roderick Nava landed 44th.

The rest of the Filipinos also trailed: GM Darwin Laylo 37th, IM Paulo Bersamina 39th, IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia 41st, IM Chito Garma 42nd, IM Daniel Quizon 44th, Michael Concio, Jr. 45th, Mari Joseph Turquez 46th, Fide master Alekhine Nouri 47th, GM Rogelio Antonio, Jr 49th, GM John Paul Gomez 51st, IM Haridas Pascua 52nd, CM John Merill Jacutina 53rd, FM Stephen Rome Pangilinan 56th, Edsel Montoya 57th, Jerad Docena 60th and Young 62nd.
