250 inmates in Bacolod jail negative for drug use

AT LEAST 250 inmates of the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ)–male dormitory were tested negative for illegal drug use during the random drug test in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City Friday, December 14.

Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, jail warden, said 27 high-profile inmates and 30 dormitory representatives were included in the drug test conducted by the jail’s unit nurse with the assistance of the Provincial Administrator’s Office.

Aside from the inmates, 30 jail personnel also underwent the same test conducted by the Regional Crime Laboratory of the Philippine National Police.

Miciano said results of the jail personnel’s test will come out soon.

He added the drug screening is a regular program of the jail as part of the internal cleansing of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

“This is to ensure that there is no transaction or presence of illegal drugs inside the jail,” he added.

Miciano said they also wanted to check the effectiveness of their security measures in the jail.

“We also do not want our personnel to be involved in illegal drugs, otherwise, they will be relieved upon the implementation of the one strike policy,” he said. (GYM)
