City mayor hits back allegations

ILOILO City mayor answered allegations against him saying that these are “desperate moves of desperate people” to put down his administration.

Reacting to the current and escalated smear campaign in the barangays, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the politics of these people “dwell on the bad that never expose what they have accomplished to serve the people.”

Leaflets depicting the mayor as a bad leader are reportedly distributed in the barangays by supporters of Raul T. Gonzalez Sr. and his son.

However, the Gonzalezes denied any involvement of the said leaflets.

In a recent survey conducted by Random Access Consultants (Raci), Treñas is leading by more than 31 percent over his closest political rival, incumbent Congressman Raul T. Gonzalez Jr.

“The survey results alone showed that the people in this city are already tired of the politics of vengeance and hatred perpetuated by the Gonzalez camp,” Treñas told members of the City Hall press corps Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, a report allegedly said that some 20 recruits of the New People’s Army are being trained on target shooting by the Practical Shooting Association.

Treñas said the police and the military should look into this report to “for the city to remain peaceful during the election period.”
