CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- “The transport sector is one of the big contributors to the economic development of the city.”

Thus said Mayor Edwin Santiago when he led the mass transportation information and education program at the Amphitheater of Heroes Hall here.

The event, an initiative of the Community Affairs Division, was attended by members of the Federation of Jeepney Operators.

“I always say that no one will be left behind here in City of San Fernando. A place wouldn’t be considered progressive if only a few of its aspects and sectors are rising. Here in City of San Fernando, officials aspire to provide equal service to the people as they are one of the key reasons why today’s economy is growing,” Santiago said.

The city mayor presented the upcoming plans of the city that include the establishment of malls and centers for senior citizens and the youth.

Santiago lauded the federation’s plans and programs that include the establishment of cooperatives and extending financial assistance to their children through a scholarship program.

The city mayor also mentioned that Fernandinos should continue to promote and preserve jeepneys as daily modes of transportation by riding on them.

“Riding jeepneys is one of Fernandinos’ mode of transportation apart from kalesas. Jeepneys symbolize a simple life but when observed clearly, its foundation is solid like the City of San Fernando---a simple place yet strong in building meaningful programs for everyone,” Santiago added.
