"MANY people think that the time spent in school is the most beautiful time in their lives.

I cannot help but wonder why people do not realize how rotten our educational system is right now."

In a setting where schools are filled with hypocrisy hidden underneath the facade of great achievements and good reputation, a single girl, with her wit and charm, exposes their lies and misdeeds in every turn.

Girl from Nowhere, a Thai television show that follows the story of the mysterious and clever girl named Nanno (played by Chicha Amatayakul) as she transfers to different schools, uncovering and exposing the wicked acts of both the students and the faculty which, more of often than not, leads to violence and betrayal.

Honestly, even though I am enthusiastic about horror movies, I am not that fond of watching films filled with too much violence and blood, although I am not squeamish.

However, I had a hard time turning away from watching Girl from Nowhere as, violence aside, the storyline captured my attention to the point that I can ignore the blood and sexual acts inside the show (yes, there are several sexual scenes, although non-graphic, which makes this show not suitable for young audiences).

It is interesting how the TV series shows the ugly side of every school, its students, faculty and staff that perhaps everyone knows actually exist in the real world.

Take cheating for example. There's an episode in the TV show where a female student, Mew, was labeled an art "genius" after she presented a beautiful painting of a flower splattered with red paint, claiming it as her original artwork.

The art "genius" is actually a fake as she got the image of the flower from the internet, printed it and splattered it with red paint.

Funnily, the one who suggested such notion was Nanno herself after noticing how Mew feels stupid and invisible in a school filled with so-called geniuses (some are actually like Mew who cheated).

The first episode has Nanno transferring to a school that earned the title of "Purest School of the Year," when in reality, one of the teachers has been threatening and blackmailing underage students to sleep with him.

All throughout the episodes of Girl from Nowhere, the viewers could see the hideous acts that have been happening in schools with no one doing anything to stop it.

Exposing their lies and misdeeds seem to paint Nanno as someone who is righteous however, she's far from that.

Nanno will not hesitate to do anything bad, such as sleeping with a teacher, planting bad ideas to the minds of the students, manipulating other people, just to get what she wants.

But as a viewer, you will have to wonder who exactly Nanno is and what made her do this kind of thing?

Spoiler alert, the answer to that question is explained in the last two episodes of the series. And boy was it tragic although I can actually empathize with her seeking revenge to those who mistreated and betrayed her.

If you wanna know more about Nanno's past, watch Girl from Nowhere which is available in Netflix and has a total of 13 episodes.
