Parents advised to keep kids out of electrical decors reach

PARENTS had been advised to closely watch and not to allow their children to touch any of the electrical Christmas decorations in the different land marks in Zamboanga City to avoid accidents.

Engineer Rene Dela Cruz, City General Service Office (CGSO) chief, issued the advice after a six-year-old girl was electrocuted recently after she touched the Christmas lights at Plaza Pershing.

Electrical Christmas decorations were installed in City Hall, Paseo del Mar, Rizal Street, Veterans Memorial Monument, Agan Avenue, Rotary Canelar-Sta. Maria rotunda, Jardin Maria Clara aside from Plaza Pershing.

Dela Cruz said the girl was admitted for two days in the hospital and the city government shouldered the hospitalization expenses.

He lamented there were instances the parents don’t appreciate the advice by the CGSO personnel assigned to watch the landmarks with installed Christmas lights.

He said several parents also don’t mind the warning signages they have installed for the protection of the children.

The city government has allocated P3 million for the purchase and installation of Christmas decorations this yuletide season. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
