3 soldiers hurt in Zamboanga highway accident

THREE soldiers were injured when the truck they were riding rolled over along the highway in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Monday, December 17.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 1 p.m. Sunday along the national highway in Makilas village, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Galvez ientified the victims as Staff Sergeant Ralph Husain, 39; Private First Class (PFC) Lonie Magarao, 26; and PFC Khem James Cabarles, 24.

She said investigation showed the KM-450 type military truck swerved and rolled over when Husain stepped on the brake pedal to avoid a collision on a passenger van that suddenly overtook them along the highway.

The three soldiers were traveling to Zamboanga City at the time of the accident, she added.

She said a parked motorcycle, owned by Cristito Segovia, 50, was damaged after the truck tilt over the motorbike.

She said the soldiers were rushed to a hospital in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay and were later transferred to a medical facility in Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
