FOUR rape suspects were arrested in Benguet and Kalinga in separate operations by the Police Regional Office – Cordillera last week.
In La Trinidad, Benguet, police arrested Elmer Bentay, 34, in Barangay Tawang after a 13-year-old female student reported to the municipal police station (MPS) that she was sexually abused by the suspect at their residence in the morning of December 13.
The suspect allegedly threatened to kill her if she will squeal about the incident.
In Mankayan, Saturnino Sawey, 60, was arrested by Mankayan police in his residence for a crime he committed in April this year.
Personnel of Buguias MPS also arrested Joven Baban, 56, for sexually abusing a 14-year-old female on three different occasions from December 2017 to August this year.
Both Sawey and Baban were arrested for the crime of rape through a warrant of arrest issued by the court.
In Kalinga province, Juanito Dollante Jr. was arrested by the police through a warrant of arrest for sexually abusing a female minor sometime in September this year.
Allegedly, the suspect also threatened the victim that something bad will happen to her if she tells anyone.
All four suspects are in the custody of concerned units and are facing appropriate charges.
Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana, PRO Cordillera regional director, said that these kind of sensitive cases are properly addressed by the PNP especially that it involves women and children.
He also added that documents are well prepared and reviewed by investigators so that the perpetrators will surely end up in jail.
