Lumad group will not vote for solons who favor ML extension

THE regional lumad organization Kalumbay will be campaigning against lawmakers who voted for the extension of martial law in Mindanao decrying that their votes did not carry the true voice of the indigenous peoples.

Datu Jomorito Goaynon, chairperson of Kalumbay said, all legislators from Northern Mindanao voted in favor of the extension without consulting the real sentiments of the people.

"Wala mi namonitor nga nagpahigayon sila og forum or consultation. Ila ra tong kaugalingong decision ug interest," Goaynon said.

(We have not monitored that they conducted a forum or consultation. Its just their personal decision and interest)

Because of this, Goaynon said they will make sure these representatives will not receive their votes in the 2019 elections.

"Atong ikampanya nga kini nga mga kongresista nga nag vote yes unya modagan karong election dili nato iboto," Goaynon said.

(We will campaign that these congressmen who voted yes and will run in the upcoming elections will not get our votes)

"Grabe atong kadismaya kanila," he added.

(We are very disappointed with them)

Goaynon said voting for the extension of martial law is against their wishes because this will only aggravate human rights abuses.

Goaynon said these lawmakers should have consulted and listened first to the sentiments of their constituents they being the voice of their respective districts.

Various Indigenous People's groups and other progressive and partner organizations will launch protest actions against the extension of Martial Law.

The House of Congress recently approved for the third time the extension of military rule for another year.
