Gun enthusiast killed in Dagupan City

DAGUPAN CITY -- An engineer who went out of his house for a while to an errand was ambushed by motorcycle riding gunmen while he was driving home.

Based on the gunshot wounds the victim sustained and from the way the assassination was executed, Dagupan City Police Chief Mariano Luis Verzosa said the triggerman is a professional and is well-trained in shooting.

The victim was identified as Engineer Danny del Rosario, 59, a resident of Barangay Malued, this city. He was an active member of the Dagupan Practical Shooting Association (DPSA).

Verzosa said the shooting incident transpired about 8 a.m. last Monday along Malued road.

Rosario was driving his green Isuzu Trooper on his way home when the suspects coming from the opposite direction shot him several times.

He sustained three gunshot wounds at his left neck and other parts of his body.

Despite his injury, the victim was still able to drive his vehicle about 300 meters away from the crime scene before it rammed into an electric post.

Responding policemen were able to rush Rosario to Trauma Specialist Group Hospital at Barangay Tapuac but was declared by the attending physician dead on arrival due to blood loss.

The investigators recovered at the crime scene three fired cartridges of caliber .45 pistol. These were submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.

“Magaling yong bumaril sa kanya dahil parehong moving yong kanilang sasakyan. Ni hindi huminto yong kanilang motorsiklo nong binaril nila yong biktima,” said the police chief.

Verzosa dispelled suspicions that the killing could be related to politics as the victim was said to be project contractor of some politicians.

“This has nothing to do with politics,” he remarked.

He said they are conducting in-depth investigation on the case, especially so there were reports that the victim allegedly received death threats long before he was killed.
