Fleet of passenger ‘beeps’ out in the streets Dec. 19

STARTING Wednesday, Dec. 19, the operator of the 40 units of modern bus-jeep (beep) that will ply two special routes in Cebu City will start its operation after the City Council approved its travel line.

During the special session last Monday, Dec. 17, the Council gave the go signal to Persano Corp., operator of the 40 units of beep to start their operation.

In an interview, Vigor Mendoza, chairman of Persano Corp. said they are just awaiting the approval of their fare matrix from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory (LTFRB) before they can start their operation.

“We’re hoping that, by Wednesday, we will have the go signal to start the operation,” he said.

Mendoza said the approval of the fare matrix before LTFRB will be the last step before their units start running.

Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr., who sponsored the resolution, said beeps will have two routes that are not usually accessible by other public utility jeepneys (PUJ).

“I don’t think beeps will compete with other PUJs,” he said.

Persano Corp. will deploy 20 beeps for each route.

There will be nine stops for the primary route of beeps, which is from Cebu City Hall to the Cebu IT Park.

Drop-off and pick-up point will be beside Plaza Sugbo (P. Burgos St.), S. Osmeña Ave. near Pier 1, V. Sotto St., and along Robinsons Galleria Cebu, among other stops.

The beeps’ secondary route starts from Duterte St. in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe toward Sykes in Barangay Mabolo with nine designated loading and unloading areas. (RVC)
