Other NegOcc power DUs drop December rates, too

ASIDE from Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), other power distribution utilities (DUs) in the province also dropped their power rates for this month.

The Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (Noceco), which caters to electric consumers in the southern portion of the province, from Pulupandan to Hinoba-an, announced a decrease of almost P0.78 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

From P11.0184 per kWh in November, the cooperative's rate went down to P10.2394 for December.

Noceco general manager Jonas Discaya, in an advisory said, the main driver of the lower electricity rate this month is the P0.6065 per kWh decrease in the generation charge.

From P5.6424 per kWh, it dropped to P5.0359 per kWh.

Discaya said the reduction in rates was driven by lower energy charge from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) from which Noceco obtains a portion of its power supply.

“Another factor was the scheduled outage of Kepco Salcon Power Corporation (KSPC),” he said, explaining that the share of its power contracted by the cooperative was replaced by WESM.

With the lower electricity price from WESM, it resulted in a reduction on the average price of the generation rate, the general manager added.

Aside from the generation charge, systems loss charge and subsidy rates also registered a reduction of P0.1044 per kWh and P0.0121 per kWh, respectively.

The value-added tax charges also went down to a total of P0.1049 per kWh, the advisory showed.

The transmission rate, however, registered a minimal increase of P0.0489 per kWh. It was offset as the overall electricity rate went down, it added.

Though it has yet to compute its final power rate for the month, the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (Noneco) expects a decrease of about P0.50 per kWh.

Noneco caters to consumers in the north, from E.B. Magalona to San Carlos City.

In November, its power rate was P11.56 per kWh.

Meanwhile, Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) earlier announced that its electricity rate for December decreased by P0.69.

From P11.87 per kWh in the previous month, it went down to P11.18 per kWh.

Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said the reduction is attributed to the cold weather this month.

Because of this, the electric cooperative has not purchased in peak volume of power, Lagarde said.

Another factor, he added, is also the reduction of the price at Wesm.

Ceneco, which caters to the largest number of consumers in cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay and Silay, and towns of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto, also noted a reduction of 1.27 percent in its system loss

From 12.03 percent in November, it went down to 10.76 percent this month.
