Rehab program responders’ ‘Monthly Tabo’ earns P870,000

RECOVERING drug dependents who are under the Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) of the Cagayan de Oro City Government earned a total of P870,454 from their Monthly Tabo, the city-initiated program to help former drug users make a decent livelihood.

Rhyselle Descallar, head of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), said the amount is the overall sales of all participating barangays from March to October this year.

The Monthly Tabo (market), a week-long activity held every third week of the month, not only supports the recovery of the drug dependents but also aims to support the barangays in their aftercare program.

"A portion of the sales goes to the bank while another portion is reserved next year for another round of Monthly Tabo," Descallar said.

The monthly tabo is a venue for drug respondents to sell products available in their barangays, or even products that they made on their own.

Among the participating barangays are Camaman-an which earned P61,220, Carmen (P114,807), barangay 25 (P76,614), Lapasan (P68,001), barangays 1 to 20 (P276,503), Gusa (P18,360), San Simon (P15,014), Macasandig (P131,546), Canitoan (P75,743), Mambuaya (P1,465), barangays 27 and 33 (P27,177), and barangay 24 (P4,000).

Descallar called on the public to continue to support their activity and show that there is hope for drug dependents.
