Vice mayor calls out councilor over absences

City Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin “Kikang” Uy called out Councilor Nadya Emano-Elipe during the last session of 2018 last Monday, December 17, for having been absent in the last three consecutive City Council sessions.

Before the agenda was even laid out, Uy noticed the empty chair of Councilor Elipe and said as presiding officer, he has the authority to call the attention of Elipe but quickly added he is going to let it slide.

"We will give her consideration especially since it's Christmas but she must keep in mind that the Local Government Code allows me to call her attention, and even order her to appear at during session," Uy said.

"Pero okay lang to (pero it's okay), wala man problema since maka-operate man ang 18th city council (no problem because the City Council can still operate) without her. Dili na angayan ipa-explain sya anyway nagtrabaho tanan sa city council (There's no need for her to explain)," he added.

The Office of the City Council secretary, however, said Councilor Elipe is on leave.

Also absent during the last session were Councilors Zaldy Ocon and George Goking.

Meanwhile, Uy boasted his perfect attendance in all of the sessions held this year, and the number of ordinance and resolutions passed under his leadership.

"Wala man koy absent (I have no absences), I have travels but these are on official business, dili na sya absent kay allowed and approved na (but these are not marked as absent since it is allowed and approved). The number of ordinance and resolutions we passed were quite a few. The data speaks for itself for what we have done this year," Uy added.
