Northern Mindanao police to forgo taping of gun muzzles

THE top official of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao Wednesday, December 19, said muzzles of police-issued guns will not be sealed off for the holiday season.

PRO-Northern Mindanao director Chief Superintendent Timoteo Pacleb said there is no need to tape the muzzle of the policemen’s service firearms as “the PNP have seen it distrustful which indirectly implies that we lack the confidence that our PNP personnel will not fire their issued firearms indiscriminately during the holiday revelry.”

“There will be no sealing of gun muzzles this year,”Pacleb said.

Pacleb has underscored the impeccable record of Northern Mindanao on firearms-related incidents during the holiday break.

The Northern Mindanao police claimed that for the past two years, the police has recorded almost zero incident of indiscriminate firing and stray bullet-related cases.

“We have proven it time and again. This only shows that even without muzzle tape sealing of our firearms, the inherent discipline of our personnel remained unbended in the privacy of their homes,”Pacleb said.

Superintendent Surki Sereñas, PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson, urged licenses gun owners to be responsible with their guns.

“The privilege of owning a gun carries an immense responsibility,”Serenas said.

“Don't fire your guns unnecessarily. Let us just celebrate the yuletide season without the guilt that the bullet fired indiscriminately from your gun is the same bullet who will kill somebody somewhere,” he added.

Sereñas said police personnel who will be proven to have fired their guns indiscriminately will be booted out from the police service and will face criminal charges in court.
