Holy Child ready for cage finals

MINDANAO under-17 champion Holy Child School of Davao (HCSD) Reds is ready for cage battle when the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) National Juniors Finals tips off Saturday in Cebu City.

Holy Child head coach Ildefonso Cunanan said the team is doing well and is competing with a complete line-up in the national championship.

"Our boys are okay. The team is intact. The players who played in the Mindanao finals are still the ones I'm bringing in the national championship. We are ready for this competition," Cunanan said.

He said they have already been grouped with St. Claire Manila and champions of Iloilo, Baguio and Luzon.

"There are two groups. The top two teams in each group will enter the semifinals," Cunanan added.

The Reds, backed up by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and supported by SBP regional director Regino "Boy" Cua, are set to leave for Cebu on Saturday.

Six-foot-two team captain Mario Emmanuel Bonleon Jr., who powered the Reds to a 102-84 victory over Sacred Heart Montessori School of Cagayan de Oro in the Mindanao finals with his 41 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, five blocks and two steals, is expected to lead his team anew.

Jeson Delfinado, Joshua Dave Aguilon, Hermogenes Maning, Daniel Ryan Sumalinog, Ian Flaviano, Dan Abraham Miedes, Christopher Jay Gavia, Mark Anthony Olayon, Zairill Jules Carbonell, Ian Vonn Kristopher Restauro, and Renzar Henry Asilum complete the team roster.
