DIFFERENT sectors in Davao City urged consumers to ensure hazard-free holiday during Christmas season.

Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) Assistant Vice President on Reputation Enhancement Department Rossano C. Luga said during Habi at Kape press conference that consumers should buy Christmas lights that are secured with Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers to ensure good quality of the product.

Luga added they have also to double the products that they have bought for possible defects or malfunctions such as broken and crack sockets.

"Avoid nato ang kaning ang overloading ug electrical appliance na magkaroon tag overcurrent na mag overheat mag meltdown ang iyahang insulator mahitabo ang atong gitawag na electrical short circuit (Let's avoid overloading of electrical appliance to prevent electrical short circuit)," Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP 11) officer in charge of the Intelligence and Investigation Section Officer 2 (SFO2) Ramil E. Gillado said in a phone interview with Sunstar Davao Wednesday, December 19.

Gillado added that the consumers should avoid octopus connection, pluging many devices and appliances to a single extension wire regardless of the load capacity of the outlet.

Interface Development Interventions (Idis) chair Chinkee Pelino-Golle said in a separate phone interview with Sunstar Davao to switch off the lights and appliances if unused.

Gllado said that as of the latest BFP-11 2018 data, a total of 211 electrical-related fire incident cases was recorded in residential areas. However, he added that since 2014 to 2017, there were no fire incidents involving Christmas lights.
