Where to go in Davao

WITH an increasing number tourists coming to Davao City and the launching of new flights, the city can expect an influx of new tourists coming here.

This year SunStar Davao highlighted some tourist sites in the city and the region that should be in the bucket list of those visiting Davao.

Bamboo Sanctuary and Ecological Park

Located in Malagos, Baguio District, the park features a massive steel dome as its centerpiece. Inside the dome one can enjoy combat archery with their friends. The park also has a spring pool where you can take a refreshing dip.

The Bamboo Sanctuary and Ecological Park also caters to teambuilding activities. They have the Bamboo Challenge, where they will be the ones to handle the teambuilding of the clients.

In an earlier interview, April Faye Lee, resident manager of the Bamboo Sanctuary, said their visitors can find 32 kinds of bamboo, which includes endemic species, at the ecological park. Some of the bamboo species you can find here are the dwarf bamboo, vine bamboo, Japanese bamboo, and the rare pink bamboo.

Caving in Laak

This year, we also saw how Laak, Compostela Valley is making efforts to step up its tourism promotions.

The municipality is highlighting its caves. Prescilla Decena, caving coordinator of Compostela Valley Provincial Government, said in an interview that they are positioning the town as the “Cave Capital of Davao Region” to attract more tourists.

Among the activities the town is doing to raise awareness on its tourist sites is the annual Laak Cave Festival. Started in 2011, the festival also seeks to equip locals with sufficient knowledge on the tourism edge of Laak.

Island Buenavista

While it may cost P115,000 for 10 persons to spend a night at the island, Island Buenavista is the ultimate experience for those who want to feel what it is like to own an island.

The island resort has one family villa, two island suites, six cabanas and an executive suite.

To experience more of the island, Ocampo said they can set up dinner by the beach with bonfire, breakfast by the pool, merienda by the sea, fire dancing, videoke, crab catching, snorkelling in between small and big Ligid Island, kayaking, and scuba diving.

The eight-hectare island (during low tide, four-hectare on high tide) is a remarkable diving destination because it is a marine sanctuary.
