Fireworks now on sale at SRP

TWENTY registered stalls at the South Road Properties (SRP) started to sell firecrackers on Thursday, Dec. 20.

Councilor Dave Tumulak, who chairs the committee on public order and safety, said there are fewer vendors this year compared to last year. Also, the SRP is the only designated area in Cebu City where selling of firecrackers and pyrotechnics for the holiday season is allowed, he said.

The site is the three-hectare property on the boundary of the city and Talisay.

“They started late because of the strict requirements set by the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine National Police. Because of it, the City also urged vendors to comply with all the requirements before they start selling for their safety and (that of) their customers,” Tumulak said.

Tumulak said those found selling outside the designated area will be apprehended.

As part of safety measures, Tumulak said vendors are required to store water in containers beside their stalls and to post signs indicating that the products are flammable. Each vendor is also required to have a fire extinguisher.

The vendors are only allowed to sell firecrackers in the area until Dec. 31. (RVC)
