A LAWYER and her partner were wounded after they were allegedly ambushed by unidentified armed men in Talisay City, Negros Occidental Friday night, December 21.
Reports from Aksyon Radyo Bacolod said one of the victims was identified as lawyer Erfe del Castillo, legal counsel of Francis Rey Cabuga, one of the stakeholders of the Metro Inn Hotel in Bacolod City.
The lawyer’s partner has yet to be named.
Initial reports gathered by SunStar Bacolod showed that Del Castillo’s partner was driving the car on their way to Bacolod City from Bacolod-Silay Airport when they were waylaid by an undetermined number of armed men.
A rapid burst of gunfire followed.
Both victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City.
The perpetrators fled reportedly on board a sports utility vehicle.
Personnel of Talisay City Police Station responded to the area but have yet to provide details about the incident while the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) processed the crime scene.
Del Castillo got involved in the conflict of her client Francis, and his estranged wife, Catherine Cabuga, also a shareholder of the hotel, when the lawyer accompanied Francis, who allegedly forced his entry to the hotel which resulted in a 22-hour standoff on 6th Lacson Street in Bacolod City, causing a road closure and disruption of traffic last month.
Earlier, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has earlier urged authorities in the province and Bacolod City to step up the security amid the recent incidents of violence.
On December 14, Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife Nita Tan escaped death after they were ambushed by unidentified armed men in Barangay Alangilan here.
In August this year, lawyer Rafael Atotubo was gunned down by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in front of his house in Barangay 20, Bacolod City.
After almost three months, human rights lawyer Bejmain Ramos Jr. was also shot to death by motorcycle-riding suspects in Kabankalan City on November 6.
