SMS Boystown, Girlstown eye 3-on-3 world record

CHOOKS-TO-GO Pilipinas 3x3 attempts to break the world record for most participants in a 3-on-3 basketball event on Jan. 11 to 13 at the Sisters of Mary Boystown and Girlstown.

“Yes, we are trying to attempt that feat. But we need to combine Boystown and Girlstown together with the existing SBP 3x3 players in the region for us to go break the world record,” Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. sports director Mel Macasaquit told SunStar Cebu.

Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 will try to break the record set by Spokane Hoopfest of 7,296 participants in 2009 in Spokane, Washington.

However, if the tournament won’t be able to break the record, Macasaquit will be looking to get much-needed points.

“Even if we don’t break the world record, we’ll be getting much-needed points, approximately a year’s worth of it with the pace we are doing to raise our ranking in the world stage. We can do this by registering all the players with the FIBA 3x3 app,” he said. “SBP executive director Sonny Barrios brought 3x3 to our organization two years ago with the Pambansang Tatluhan. We are taking this seriously. In fact, with the approval of boss Ronald Mascariñas, the biggest 3x3 league will start this January 2019. The league will be the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 while the first conference is the Mascariñas Cup - an all-Filipino affair,” said Macasaquit.

SMS Boystown’s Van Halen Parmis assured that the venue is ready for the huge event.

“The venue preparation is going well. We are painting the courts,” said Parmis.

Both the SMS Boystown and Girlstown will be providing a total of 44 courts for the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 tournament. EKA
