TO some, gift wrapping is a simple task that entails mere folding and taping. To others, it is an ordeal, requiring a painstaking amount of work. What I’m trying to say is: Not everyone is blessed with gift wrapping skills. Through the years, I’ve learned a few tricks to get creative with gift wrapping and sometimes, even ditched wrapping altogether for days when I’m lazy busy.
Just right before Christmas Day, here are some practical tips for wrapping gifts which you might find useful.
Put the item in a box
When you’re wrapping something that doesn’t hold a certain shape (like a t-shirt), use a box so it’s easier to wrap. You can reuse an old shoe box or a milk carton and then cover it in gift wrapper, or you can buy those pre-made Christmas boxes from stationery stores.
Buy a paper bag
If you don’t have the time to wrap your gift anymore, a paper bag is the quick solution! It obviously costs more than gift wrapper but the extra money is all worth the convenience.
Buy solid colored paper and embellish
Get your creative juices flowing and make your own gift wrap. You can doodle, scribble, add stickers etc. This requires a tad more effort but it’s fun! The personalized touch will also impress the recipients of your gift.
When purchasing, request from the cashier to have it in a paper bag
By default, stores put your items in a plastic bag unless it’s a Saturday. But in the spirit of the holidays, they’re usually nice enough to put it in a paper bag if you ask nicely (and tell them you’re giving it to someone as a gift).
Avail of free gift-wrapping services
Most, if not all, department stores offer free gift wrapping services with no minimum amount. Take advantage of this.
