Baguio continues dominance of Caraa

LAGAWE, Ifugao – Badminton churned in six more gold medals for Baguio City, while athletics added two more as the Summer Capital continues to dominate the 2010 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa).

Baguio added another eight gold medal output in the standings as it now has 16 gold including four silvers and a bronze while Mt. Province is in far second with three gold medals, nine silvers and a bronze.

The actual medal count could have been higher but the Department of Education – Caraa secretariat has yet to issue the official medal standing after two days of fierce competition.

Kalinga still held on to third with three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze medal while Abra province is in fourth with a gold, four silver and two bronze Perennial runner-up in the annual sports meet Benguet Province is fifth with one gold, three silver and nine bronze while host Ifugao has one gold, three silver and six bronze medals for the sixth place finish with Apayao at seventh having one silver and one bronze medal.

Baguio badminton players copped the title in the secondary boys, secondary girls and elementary boys and dominated the singles competition in the elementary girls, and the secondary boys and girls.

In the singles competition, Clarice Agpalo bested Abra’s Janille Mica Corpuz of Abra for the gold medal in the elementary girls division while Baguio’s Jezel Melanie Madayag took the bronze medal.

In the elementary boys’ competition Iville Nahiwa of Ifugao took the gold while Wyne Tumbaga of Abra and Jerson Dale Talavera from Baguio City won the bronze medal.

In the secondary boys, Norman Elpa Jr bested fellow Baguio badminton player Joshua Tamo who settled for silver while Jason Tumbaga of Abra took the bronze medal.

Baguio athletes also churned in gold medal performances in athletics with Precious Takiman winning the gold in the running long jump with a distance of 4.45 meter in the secondary girls while Mark Navalta also won gold in the secondary boys shot put event after throwing a distance of 9.97 meters.
