Power firm urged to explain cash advances

CITY councilors proposed a resolution asking Benguet Electric Cooperative Inc. (Beneco) management to explain the alleged unliquidated cash advances of its board of directors’ members.

In a proposed resolution, Beneco General Manager Gerardo Verzosa is being invited. The proposed invitation was based on a letter of Federico Balanag, chairperson of Baguio Electric Power Consumers Cooperative (BEPCC) to Edita Bueno, administrator of the National Electrification Administration (NEA), raising concern on the alleged unliquidated cash advances made by the board of directors to finance their District Contingency Fund (DCF).

The letter of Balanag further alleges that “…a perusal of the practice of the board of directors to implement their pet projects financed through their CDF is contrary to the recommendation of your good office in its operations audit conducted in November 2007, wherein it recommended that social projects approved by the board should be implemented by the Corporate Service Department to avoid clouds of doubt…”

“There is a need to make an inquiry on the matter to serve the best interest of electric consumers of the City of Baguio,” the proponents said.

Councilors Galo Weygan, Erdolfo Balajadia, Isabelo Cosalan Jr., Fred Bagbagen, Betty Lourdes Tabanda, Perlita Rondez, Nicasio Palaganas, Richard Carino, Elaine Sembrano and Gloria Ysabel De Vera signed the resolution. (Aileen P. Refuerzo)
