Where will Filipinos spend New Year’s Eve?

FROM being the second top New Year’s Eve destination among Filipinos, Cebu slid to the sixth spot this year.

According to bookings made on online travel booking platform Agoda, most Filipino travelers will be going to Manila to welcome 2019.

Agoda’s booking data shows more Filipinos looking to celebrate the year-end overseas, with five international destinations in the top 10 this year (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, and Osaka), compared with only three in 2016 (Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore).

Japan is the most popular foreign country for Filipino travelers, with Tokyo (2) and Osaka (8) taking two spots this year.

Those celebrating closer to home will be headed to Manila (1), Cebu (6), Baguio (7), Boracay (9) and Tagaytay (10).

In 2016 and 2017, Cebu ranked second among destinations Filipinos chose to celebrate the new year.

Agoda booking data was collated on Dec. 10 New Year’s Eve bookings in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Globally, Tokyo, Paris and New York City are the top destinations Agoda users will be celebrating the new year.

In Asia, Tokyo, Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Osaka, Pattaya, Taichung, Hong Kong, Bali and Chiang Mai were the most popular destinations booked for the new year.

In Europe, the most popular destinations are Paris, London, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Prague, Madrid and Milan.

For North American bookings, New York City won over travelers, gaining the top spot. It was followed by Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Oahu, San Francisco, Chicago, New Orleans, Miami and Toronto. PR
