The new Kim in town

Yukhoe (raw beef with egg)

EIGHT years after establishing its first outlet in Bacolod, Korean restaurant Kimstaurant has recently opened its doors in Cebu to offer authentic flavors from the Land of the Morning Calm. The menu offers many dishes that have already become local favorites, such as beef galbi, bibimbap, japchae and Korean-style fried chicken. However, a few bites of the food at Kimstaurant will tell you it’s of higher quality than what some others offer in Cebu. This is because Kimstaurant’s ingredients are imported straight from Korea to ensure the freshest and most authentic taste. Combined with the recipes and cooking techniques of general manager Peter Kim, these create dishes that both newbies and lovers of Korean food will appreciate.

Peter established Kimstaurant in Bacolod in 2010, seeing that there were only a few Korean restaurants in the area. It has become so popular with locals that Peter felt it would also be well received in Cebu. So far since the restaurant opened, Cebuano favorites include the beef galbi jjim or braised beef short ribs, flavorful and so tender one hardly needs to chew; and the soy sauce chicken, a perfectly crunchy and slightly sticky sweet and sour recipe perfected by Peter himself. More adventurous palates may want to try Peter’s personal favorite, the yukhoe, or strips of raw beef with egg. I passed on the yukhoe, but the short ribs and chicken are definitely worth repeat visits in my book.

Kimstaurant is located at The Greenery in Pope John Paul II Ave., Kasambagan, Cebu City.
