MATI City – It has been months since we (my girlfriend, Jandi) last stayed in this laidback beach property that is Destino Dahican but I could still vividly remember how this place gave a near-perfect definition of paradise.

Imagine sleeping with the Pacific Ocean’s waves as your lullaby and waking up with them as an alarm plus a calming sunrise right in front of your window - perfect. That was how I recall my day when in Destino.

Located meters away from the busy part of Dahican Beach, the coconut tree-filled place offers a very oriental vibe accentuated with its clear and unobstructed view of the ocean and the majestic sight of Mount Mayo.

It is my ideal place for a perfect getaway. It has three cabanas that can accommodate 15 persons at a time. It is also good for family and friends' reunions.

Booking an overnight stay here comes with a set breakfast, Wi-Fi, and cable TV. No corkage is also imposed for guests bringing food items.

Guests are also allowed to cook in their fully-furnished kitchen and will be assisted with the property’s cook and house assistant.

During our stay, we happened to meet the owner, Leo Sibala, and had a short chat about his business and sustainable tourism.

“I refuse to tag Destino Dahican as a resort, maybe a beach park or vacation rentals is more appropriate to describe the property,” he said.

For him, a resort is something that is usually crowded and expensive, very far from the concept of his property.

“You don’t have to go expensive in tourism, you just need peaceful, relaxing, and clean surroundings,” the nature-lover businessman said.

Sibala is very hands-on to his businesses. He often stays in Destino whenever rooms are not booked, saying staying at his rental rooms will enable him to understand and assess effectively what things are still needed to improve their services.

Asked on his plans for the property, he said he wants to remain the overall set up of the place – simple - as it is viewed as its strength.

The next time I plan to go for a break from the city life, Destino Dahican in Mati City will always be on the list.

For the last part of this series, let me take you to the beautiful island of Pujada and hike with me to the famed Sleeping Dinosaur.
