UB tops BBEAL wushu-sanda

UNIVERSITY of Baguio continue its romp in the 32nd season of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League running away with five golds, including three silver and one bronze medal to rule the wushu-sanda competition recently.

The Cardinals snatched four of the six gold medals at stake in the men’s competition while the distaff side pulled a lone gold courtesy of Cherry Mae Sanchez who topped the 52 kilogram division.

Daryl Chulipas (48 kg), Wilfredo Padua (52 kg), Wilford Bagangao (65 kg), and Jomar Balangui (56 kg) won the gold medals for the Cardinals while silver medalists are Andres Napeek (60 kg), Kelly Marcelo (70 kg), and Ma. Alexandra Tinosan (48 kg women) as Caludine Veloso took home the lone bronze for the Cardinals in the women’s 56 kg event.

University of the Cordilleras meanwhile had four golds, one silver and five bronze medals to settle for second place.

Bagging the gold medals for the Jaguars are Jason Cosme (60 kg), Carlos Alvarez (70 kg), Kean Pramis (women’s 45 kg) and Kaye Portia Duday (women’s 45 kg) while Mylene Cayat bagged the silver in the women’s 60 kg event as Bhejie Pitpitunge (48 kg), Jahn Serbo (56 kg), Ray Joshua Agustin (65 kg), Menchit Macasero (women’s 52 kg), and Arizalyn Marzo (women’s 56 kg) salvaged bronze.

Landing at third place is the Philippine Military Academy with two gold medals four silver and five bronze medals.

The Cavaliers emerged victorious in the 60 kg category courtesy of Denise Easter Adobo and another female cadet in the 65 kg weight class while silver medalists include Angelbert Aniar (48 kg), Renz Jason Latayan (56 kg), Lady Deane Sarmiento (women’s 52 kg), and Mary Knoll Rhea Cuis (women’s 56 kg).

Joventino Aspe (52 kg), Chesterlie Fernandez (60 kg), Jayvee Ofo-ob (65 kg), Tristan Paltongan (70 kg) and Krisitiane Betinol (48 kg) salvaged bronze medal for PMA.

Cordillera Career Development College meanwhile snatched a lone gold medal courtesy of Carissa Tarapen (56 kg) to land in fourth place with two more bronze medals from Jones Catalino (48 kg) and Paulino Dinamling (52 kg).

Baguio Central University finished fifth as it bagged three silver medals snatched by Jeferson Golocan (65 kg) Kerubin Sungay (52 kg), and Noemi Changluyen (women’s 45 kg) while Kristine Amoyen (women’s 52 kg) and Jeyjey Taylan (56 kg) salvaged bronze medals for the Eagles.

Other participating schools in the wushu–sanda competition held at the WFP Regional Training Center at Woodsgate include Saint Louis University and Benguet State University. (Roderick Osis)
