Council approves 173 ordinances

THE 18th Davao City Council passed 685 resolutions and approved 173 ordinances from January to September 2018.

A total of 101 ordinances fell under the general admissions while 55 were under social classification. Economic classification recorded only one ordinance and 16 were miscellaneous.

“These numbers are indications that the 18th council is responsive, pro-active and decisive in its function as the main policy-making body in the city,” Davao City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said.

“These resolutions and ordinances will be realized into programs, projects, and services. Consequently improving our city and uplift the lives of our people,” he added.

Some members of the council also said that the figures showed that the city has a working council.

“For me, that is a good accomplishment. (But) Then again, there is always room for improvement,” committee on ethics and good government chair Councilor Jesus Melchor Quitain said.

Among the vital ordinances passed are the sobriety, road blockades and street rallies, hijab, green building, indigenous peoples (IPs) conflict resolution, among others.

Some ordinances took a while to be passed by the city council as the members need to hear all the sides involved in such ordinances such the amendment of Shrine Hills in Matina, Davao City as Urban Ecological Enhancement Sub-Zone.
