Retired cop dead, 1 hurt in ‘gun duel’

A RETIRED policeman died while one person was wounded in an alleged gun duel in Sitio Logoy Grande in the village of Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, December 30.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer identified the fatality as Aidarus Bustama, 64, and a resident of Sta. Barbara village, Zamboanga City.

Galvez said wounded was Hutton Sangula Teo, Jr., 36, a resident of Talon-Talon.

Galvez said investigation showed that Teo went to visit his daughters from his first wife and upon reaching the daughters’ house he was confronted by Bustama.

She said a heated altercation ensued between the two and repeated gunshots were heard that resulted to the death of Bustama and injured Teo.

She said Teo, who voluntarily surrendered a caliber .45 pistol, was taken to the hospital by the responding personnel from the Police Station 6.

She said Teo later surrendered another caliber .45 pistol to the police.

She said it was further learned that Bustama has recorded a complaint with the police on December 10 claiming a man he knows by face barged into his resident and tried to kill him.

However, Bustama told the police he was unscathed since the suspect’s gun malfunctioned.

Galvez said they have yet to determine whether the recent incident is linked to the incident on December 10.
