THE Department of Health (DOH)- Davao Region recorded two cases of firecracker-related injury as of December 21 to 30, 2018.

DOH- Davao Region health education and promotion officer Yasuy Avila said that the second case was in Digos, Davao del Sur while the first case was in Banganga, Davao Oriental.

It can be noted that firecracker-related injuries in the region from December 21, 2017 up to January 5, 2018 decreased by 8.3 percent to 22 cases from 24 cases on December 21, 2016 to January 5, 2017.

“We are reminding parents and caregivers to make sure that their children do not play with any fireworks this holiday season because of the danger that they pose, instead we urge them to be creative and use alternative noise makers to celebrate,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a statement earlier.

Avila said monitoring firecracker-related injuries will continue until January 5, 2019. (RJC)
