10 ways to reinvent yourself this 2019

THERE’S no better and more opportune time for a fresh start than a new year, don’t you think? After all, we’re all works in progress, which means it is only essential that we constantly evolve and grow over time. Deciding to reinvent yourself is one step, but to actually take action is another. If you’re quite unsure of where and how you can start, here are a few ways:

Change your mindset

Everything has to start within yourself. You have to commit and to believe that 2019 is a year of reinvention and the rest will follow. Reflect internally: why do you want to reinvent yourself? What are you working toward? What’s the long term goal here?

Get a new ‘do

Maybe it’s a hairstyle or a hair color that you’ve always wanted to try but just never got around to doing it. Go for it now. It’s just hair. After all, it’ll grow out eventually. Just be prepared to follow through with the necessary after-care that comes with it.

Try on a different look, fashion-wise

Explore the endless sartorial possibilities. These may surprise you. If you’re the dapper type, give streetwear a try. If your style is on the grungy-edgy side, switch it up with some preppy pieces. Personal style and fashion are meant to be experimented with and should always be fun.

Get a new job

If you wake up each day dreading the work you have to do, maybe it’s time you quit and get a new job—or a job in an entirely different industry, one that hopefully, you will genuinely enjoy.

Learn a new skill

Use your free time productively by starting a new hobby or honing an existing one. It can be learning a new language like French or painting, knitting or even a sport. It may be a hobby now, but eventually, you might want to make it a career or a business. You never know!

Redesign your home

Your environment greatly affects your overall disposition and mood. Spruce it up a bit for the new year. Re-arrange the furniture. Tweak the layout. Get some new pieces if you have the budget.

Meet new people

It doesn’t have to be romantic. Just go out there and meet new people. It’s the digital age. You can meet people online or if you like it old-school, visit cafes and bars or attend events where you can meet people who share your interests. Just start by saying “hi!”

Edit your diet

Indulge on your New Year’s Eve spread but after that, maybe it’s time you eat a little healthier and cleaner. Especially for those in their late 20s, it’s time to slow down on the fried and junk food. We can’t eat anything and everything we want forever. Your body will thank you for it in the long run.

Travel solo

It’s a daunting concept for some, so you can start with a local destination first and then make your way internationally. You’ll meet new people and you’ll do things you never thought you could. It’s a life-changing experience, to say the least. If you don’t enjoy it, at least you tried.

Move to a different city

To uproot yourself from your home and plant new roots elsewhere is a life-changing step, so this one will require long-term planning. Here, you have a completely blank slate to work on and build a new life. It won’t be easy but it’ll be worth it.
