PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez assured national athletes of better facilities, first class three-story canteen buildings and clean rehabilitated dormitories this year.
Ramirez, in a press conference held at Kuya J Restaurant, SM City Davao, on December 31, 2018, said rehabilitation of facilities at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City, training center in Baguio City and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
“For the first time in 90 years, the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex's rehabilitation has started. Rehab works are also ongoing in Baguio and Ultra. The canteens will have its own chefs and nutritionists,” the PSC chief said.
PSC commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey added that the PSC Board approved that once the canteen is completed, free meals and snacks will be provided to the athletes.
“The P5,000 meal allowance per month that each national athlete has been receiving will still continue even if they will be given free meals,” he added.
Ramirez also said that the food that will be prepared will depend on the requirements for athletes in different sports.
A new and modern medical office will also be built to cater to high performance athletes.
“This will be our legacy,” he added.
The PSC, according to Ramirez, also targets stronger grassroots and elite programs with its partnership with Korean Institute of Sports Science (Kiss) that conducts lecture on sports sciences and sports medicine four times a year; continue the Unesco-cited Children's Games, Indigenous Peoples Games, consultative conference, sports summits, sports journalism, sports science seminars and talent ID testing among athletes; and continue transformation in partnership with the national sports associations.
