AFTER the Christmas and New Year, festivities in Cebu City will continue as the week-long Sinulog 2019 celebration will kick off next week.
The Fiesta Señor or the religious aspect of the celebration will officially start on Jan. 10 with a Walk with Jesus.
The solemn procession will start at 4:00 a.m, from Fuente Osmeña to Basilica del Sto. Niño to be followed by the installation of hermano and hermana mayores.
The cultural aspect of the celebration, meanwhile, will start on Jan. 11.
A solemn mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Basilica del Sto. Niño to be followed by a launching parade from Plaza Independencia to Cebu City Sports Center.
The Sinulog sa Lalawigan will be on Jan. 12 while the Sinulog sa Barangay will be on Jan. 13.
The seaborne procession of the image of Sto. Niño will be on Jan. 19 while the grand parade will be on Jan. 20.
But even before that, the pilgrim image of Sto. Niño will visit four hospitals and the Cebu City Jail starting Thursday, Jan. 4 as part of the preliminary activities for the Fiesta Señor 2019.
Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the Sinulog Foundation Inc. said the purpose of this visit is to reach out to the devotees who can’t visit to the Basilica del Sto. Niño to pay homage to the Holy Child in the annual fiesta. (RVC)
