OWNERS of business establishments are urged to renew their business permits early to avoid delay and payment of fines, a government official said Thursday, January 3.

“We hope that people will renew earlier so that their transactions be done earlier. This is also a way to reduce the influx of people who will be coming by the deadline date,” Business Bureau officer-in-charge (OIC) lawyer Marissa Marasigan-Torentera said.

Thursday is the first day of renewal of business permits.

Businesses who fail to renew permits on time will pay a fine of 25 percent of the business’ tax due plus two percent interest rate per month.

Torentera said the processing and renewal of business permit has been extended to 25 days from the usual 20 days. The processing will end on January 31, 2019.

“Our schedule of processing renewals is from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” Torentera said. On January 31, renewal of business permits will start by 8 a.m. am and will end 12 midnight.

There will be two sites for business owners in the city where they can process their permits. At the City Treasurer’s Office in the Sangguniang Panlungsod and at the Almendras Gym. The deadline of renewing permits will end by January 24 at the Almendras Gym.

Torentera said business operators must secure the following requirements in renewing business permits: previous community tax certificate (cedula), previous business permit, baranggay clearance for business purposes issued from where the business is located, and two valid IDs of the business operator.

Other requirements include fire inspection certificate (FIC), financial statement of the previous year, issued Special Power of Attorney(SPA) for sole proprietorship type of business, Secretary Certificate for corporation, and Partnership Resolution for partnership businesses.

Torentera said they will be expecting more business operators who will renew their permits this month. Last year, around 39,500 business permits were issued. Torentera added most of these businesses are retailers.
