So beats Russian in rd. 2

WESLEY So (2656) moved up to the ninth place after beating Russian GM Dmitry Bocharov (2594) in Round 2 of the Aeroflot Open 2010 A1 tournament in Moscow.

Coming off a draw with Iranian GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami in Round 1, So overwhelmed Bocharov after 32 moves to register his first win and move up to ninth place.

So has 1.5 points and is tied with 30 other GMs.

So used the Ruy Lopez Openigg and Bocharov responded with the Sicilian Defense.

However, GM Darwin Laylo (2556) was not as lucky as he suffered his second defeat at the hands of Eltaj Safarli (2594) of Azerbaijan in Round 2.

Laylo also lost to another Azerbaijani GM, Rauf Mamedov (2640), in Round 1.

So was set to play Vietnamese GM Ngoc Truong Son Nguyen (2616) at press time, while Laylo was to face Markus Ragger (2568) of Austria.
