THE City Government of San Fernando, through Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago, commemorated the 50th death anniversary of the late Fernandino leader, Levi Panlilio, on December 28, 2018.

The observance, which was also attended by the late leader’s relatives, highlighted the unveiling of his bust monument built in Calulut village, including the signage of the certificate of transfer to the marker between Santiago and Theresa Panlilio-Rivera, descendant of the late leader.

Despite the ill-fated scenario during his term as San Fernando’s local chief executive in 1968 where he was brutally slain by unidentified men in the said village, Panlilio is still described as a great leader.

Cited on the marker, “Panlilio served with excellence and integrity the people of San Fernando, upholding always the welfare of the masses,” this leader is still remembered up to these times.

Santiago, for his part, said that every time the City memorializes the passing of the late leader, new breed of Fernandinos are given insights about his heroism.

“Itong komemorasyon sa pagkamatay ng ating dating alkalde, hindi lamang ginagawa upang kilalanin ang pagka-lider niya. Isa rin itong paraan upang maibahagi sa mga bagong Fernandinos ang kaniyang kabayanihan at kontribusyon,” Santiago said.

(This commemoration of the death of the former mayor is done not only to remember his leadership but more so is a way to share his heroism and contributions to Fernandinos)

“Maaaring ang pagkalipas ng isang bayani ay siya namang pagkasilang ng mga bagong bayani (It is possible that after a hero has passed that new heroes will be born). This will be an inspiration to young Fernandinos who also aspire to become leaders like Panlilio,” he added.

Meanwhile, the descendants of Panlilio extended their gratitude to the city, through the City Tourism Office, which spearheaded the observance. (PR)
